In recent years, there have been many walk in clinics that have sprung up everywhere. Many people have chosen to use these clinics for issues that do not need an Emergency Room visit, but need to be addressed immediately. Although these clinics are not meant to replace the primary care physician, they are often used when patients are not able to secure an appointment with their primary and need to see a medical professional fairly quickly. Family quick care, clinics open to individuals who don’t want a long wait at the emergency room, but cannot reach their own doctor, is available for patients sometimes round the clock. Emergency room visit waiting times jumped from about 45 minutes to nearly one hour between 2003 and 2009, and, often, the wait is longer because of patient triage. For a non-threatening illness or injury, family quick care does just fine.

There are a number of different types of medical walk-in locations available now that provide immediate family quick care for working families. There is after hours urgent care for patients who need to be seen for issues that are not life-threatening, there is a free walk in clinic in almost every town and city for people who have no medical insurance coverage, as well as a low cost health clinic in most cities where patients will pay for services on a sliding scale, depending upon their income. Family quick care is basically quick, affordable health care for common complaints. Walk in clinics do accept a wide range of different health care insurances. A community health clinic is another viable option for patients who only have, for different reasons, limited access to health care.

Statistics are showing that by the year 2025, 52,000 more primary physicians will be needed in order to meet the growing population’s needs for health care. Many people, especially people new to a town or community, will do a primary care physician search so that they can know which doctors are available to their families when the need arises. Family quick care is an ever growing need for families, with or without insurance, for those days, or nights, when a health issue arises that needs attention. By knowing who the local physicians are, their specialties, and their hours, patients will know who is the most fitting to call when there is a need for either themselves or a family member. It is wise to know the addresses and phone numbers of local walk-in clinics, as well, should the primary care physician be unavailable, and the illness or injury isn’t severe to need an emergency room visit.

Walk-in clinics were not created for severe injuries or serious illnesses. They are, however, an excellent option for such problems such as sinus infections, a mild flu, strep throat, pink eye, and many similar infections. When a patient is not feeling well, a long wait in the emergency waiting room is not what they want to look forward to. People taking advantage of places like walk-in clinics also cuts down on the amount of waiting time at the emergency room for those with more serious issues who need what only the emergency room can offer. In addition, it has been determined that the average cost for a patient who visits the emergency room is over $1300.00, and the average cost of a visit to urgent care facilities is much less.
