Excessive Sweating? You May Have Hyperhidrosis

Sweat is a fascinating, natural part of the body’s process of balancing its internal temperature. When body heat begins to rise — when the weather is warm or the person is exercising — the brain sends a message to the sweat-glands calling for them to release perspiration through the pores of the skin.

Once on the skin, sweat then assists in cooling the body’s temperature by absorbing the heat from the skin. While air molecules take heat from the body regularly, when the skin is dry the process is slow and often unnoticeable.

However, when the skin is wet either with water or perspiration, the process becomes faster because the heat is absorbed by the water molecules or sweat first and then transferred to the air molecules, making the body cool down that much faster.

The average person sweats up to six liters of perspiration every day. However, when a person begins to sweat more than six liters, it can become an embarrassing problem and can negatively influence a person’s lifestyle. If you’re sweating excessively regardless of whether or not you’re exercising, wearing layers, or living in high temperatures, you may be suffering from hyperhidrosis.

Generalized hyperhidrosis and localized hyperhidrosis are two types of the condition. Generalized hyperhidrosis is found typically in adults and affects larger areas of the body. Localized hyperhidrosis typically affects children and is focused in the armpits, palms, soles, and face.

Hyperhidrosis treatments exist. If serious enough, a doctor may suggest surgery by removing a number of sweat glands or nerves in the affected area. However, these types of hyperhidrosis treatments are rare and often unnecessary. Hyperhidrosis can be treated with the right antiperspirant.

However, it must be noted that antiperspirant for hyperhidrosis treatments needs to be maximum strength. A regular antiperspirant may help as an underarm sweat treatment, but it won’t stop armpit sweat in patients with excessive sweating. DuraDry, on the other hand, is a prescription-strength formula that is unlike any other antiperspirant because it’s made specifically for people with excessive sweating.

Consult a doctor if your question of how to reduce underarm sweat has become a plea. Excessive sweating shouldn’t, and doesn’t need to, impact your life.
