Each year 47,000 Canadian deaths are linked to substance abuse. Studies done have found that Canadians drink more than 50% more than the global average. That?s why the Canadian health care system has spent $8 billion on substance abuse. Don?t be just another statistic, if you need alcohol addiction treatment, the time to get it is now.
What should you look for in rehab centers?
One thing to accept up front, is that there is a correlation between substance abuse and mental illness. Not everyone with substance issues is mentally ill, but people with substance abuse problems are more likely to have mental illnesses ? up to three times more likely. One in five Canadians experience a mental health or addiction problem at some point in any given year, and at least 20% of people with a mental illness live with substance abuse problems.
So when you?re looking into alcohol addiction treatment, you may want to find inpatient or residential treatment, that has the facilities to handle alcohol detox, while dealing with the emotional and mental aspects as well.
Another thing to consider when looking at alcohol addiction treatment centers, is not just if they have psych staff on hand, but if they also have the facilities to deal with younger patients. Sadly, the onset of 70% of mental health problems appear in childhood or adolescence. That combined with peer pressure and societal messages, means that young people, ages 15 to 24, have a higher likelihood of experiencing substance abuse disorders and/or mental illness than any other age group.
This is not a punishment.
Alcohol abuse is an illness, not something to be shamed or punished for. There?s no reason to go through alcohol rehab in austerity. There are luxury rehab centers, which aside from being more comfortable, are among the best rehab centers available.
You only have one life, and so many people who care about it. Isn?t it time you did as well?
