Finding the Right Health Care Option Is Always Important

What started as a simple appointment to renew a birth control prescription, turned into a more complicated event.

The soon to college senior often made a doctor’s appointment when she traveled the 12 hours home to see her parents. On this visit, however, she had a little more on her mind than simply renewing her prescription when she visited the clinic for medical care. Four days ago, while she was outside playing some ultimate frisbee with friends, she got some kind of bug bite. In hindsight, it probably happened when the group was sitting in the grass between halves. The bit could have been a spider, but it also could have been from some kind of ant.

That night her entire leg swelled up in hives and she has been taking over the counter antihestimines. The hives have calmed down, but an enormous welt remains around the area where the bite occurred. So big, in fact, it literally stretches clear across her thigh. Fortunately, the doctor at the medical care clinic was able to examine the bite and prescribe a course of steroids that took care of the inflammation. The bite did not require antibiotics and both the pharmacist and the doctor suggested that all signs of the bits should be gone in a week to 10 days.

Family Clinics and Walk In Health Care Services Provide a Number of Treatment Options

From prescriptions to pregnancy tests to bug bite treatments, there are a number of services that you can receive when you visit a walk in clinic. Although the number has decreased since the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, there are still as many as 9% of the population in the U.S. who do not have health insurance. In fact, while there were as many as 292.3 million people had some sort of health insurance in the U.S. in 2016, if you are one of the uninsured those numbers really do not matter to you.

Fortunately, there are many affordable health care clinic platforms that provide a way for even the uninsured to get the medical care and attention that they need.
